Yoruba Indigenes Foundation supports relocation of FAAN, others to Lagos
CITIZENS COMPASS —The President of Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF), Dr Olumide Aderibole has supported the decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relocate some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos State.
In a press statement signed by Mr Sanjo Olawuyi, the Director of Communications and Strategies of the Foundation, Aderibole said “Let no one give tribal or political meaning to the relocation exercise.”
The YIF President said the decision should be viewed in respect to the array of benefits it contains.”It is economical for some staff of CBN and FAAN to be operating from their Lagos offices, because many of their clientele have their operational in Lagos State.
“Also, Lagos State is the economic nerve center of Nigeria and CBN and FAAN make the largest volume of their operations from Lagos State.
Similarly, Lagos State accommodates the largest and busiest airport in Nigeria, that is Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.”
In conclusion, he said, “The security implication of the decision is key. Judging by the not too good condition of the road from Lagos to Abuja, coupled with the high rate of kidnapping in the country.
“The relocation excercise will not in any way destabilize the unity of Nigeria. Neither, will it pose an economic threat to Abuja city or any part of Northern Nigeria.”
