Yoruba Indigenes Foundation kicks against protests

CITIZENS COMPASS –The President of Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF), Dr Olumide Aderibole, yesterday, cautioned Nigerians particularly in the South West area against the planned protests in the month of August.

In a Press Release signed by Mr Sanjo Olawuyi, the Director of Communications and Strategies of the Foundation, he urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is currently trying to transform the nation. ‘’It is obvious that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the interest of Nigerians at heart. Pragmatically, the trajectory of his approach to solving Nigeria’s economic challenges, clearly shows that, in no distant time, he will lead the nation to her economic promise land.

“As Yorubas, we should not make the mistake of allowing our land to be used as a launch pad, pretending to fight for Nigerians whereas, the reverse is the case.

“It is strategic to note that, protest goes along with array of negative side effects, few of which are:

Misinterpretations, misunderstanding and negative perceptions among the masses and disruption to businesses, hindrances to public services, traffic jams and large scale inconveniences.

Others are overreactions, which may snowball into unnecessary tensions, violent confrontations, wanton destruction of lives and properties.

Similarly, it can result in polarisation in the social and political divides of Yoruba land and across communities in Yoruba land.

“YIF knows that there is a need to galvanize attention towards the masses’ friendly economic policy change.

“On this note, YIF is advocating for better means of communicating this need with President Bola Ahmeed Tinubu, instead of the protest, which can cause distractions to President Bola Ahmeed Tinubu’s workaholic and indefatigable efforts to revamp Nigeria’s economy.

“The tenable alternatives to protests are consultations, public campaigns, negotiations, lobbying and advocacy.”
