CITIZENS COMPASS—A mother of three yesterday, gave reasons for tearing her husband’s international passport at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos during arrival from a foreign trip.

She disclosed this in a viral video which has stirred controversies from social media users.

On Sunday, a viral video captured the arrival of the couple with their three children alongside other travellers when she angrily destroyed the passport.

She did not disclose reasons behind her action.

Upon realising that the action had attracted traction on social media, she quickly released a video on Monday morning to defend her action which she tagged to some internal issues between the family.

According to her, the issues accumulated during their stay overseas claiming that she had endured these overtime and could no longer stomach them and decided to open the cankerworm upon arrival in Nigeria.

She added that she was a peace-loving and enduring woman urging Nigerians to investigate her action before judging her.

The woman also called out her husband to come forward with his defence.

Few hours after the woman’s explanation, her husband responded to his wife in another video expressing disappointment over his wife’s actions.

According to him, the long-standing issues as stated by his wife, were solely family affairs that could be trashed internally without interference from outsiders.

He expressed displeasure at his wife’s actions.

” I never expected her to come out and say this which she was saying this morning.

“This is something we can sort together as a family but she’s trying to push it up. No problem, I’m following her, I will tackle this thing and she will get tired.”

He thereafter released the full footage of what transpired at the Airport on Sunday.

He said the video was recorded by his friend.

It captured people appealing to the woman to calm down considering their underage children who were disoriented at the scene.

Both videos did not State the reasons for returning to Nigeria from overseas.

In a statement, the Nigeria Immigration Service said it has commenced investigation into the “torn passport incident.”

The e-statement signed by DCI KT Udo, Service Public Relations Officer, reads,

“The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a formal investigation following the circulation of a video on social media, showing a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

“The Individual has been identified and invited for further investigation. If the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security, and to preserving the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.”
