Two -storey building collapses in Lagos 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS — There was confusion in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos when a two-storey building at Baale Bus-stop, collapsed on Monday.

The self-collapse occured at about 8.54a.m.

A video of the incident monitored by Citizens Compass captured residents and passers-by running away from the scene shooting for help.

As they ran, they kept shouting in Yoruba Language, “Awon eeyan wa ni’be’ meaning people are there.

The video captured the building gradually giving way amidst fear from passers-by.

It could not be ascertained if the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had earlier sealed the building.

The incident was confirmed by spokesperson, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, said search and rescue has been activated to the scene.

As at 11.30a.m, he said, “LASEMA Response Teams in Search & Rescue Operation at a self-collapsed building on Amusu Street, Baale Bus Stop, Orile Iganmu.

Incident Summary

Transmitted at 08:54a.m, no casualties.”

He said the Agency was awaiting further updates, “Updates to follow.”
