Two rescued in Lagos boat mishap
CITIZENS COMPASS – Two persons were on Friday, August 11, 2023, rescued in Lagos when their boat capsized into the Eko Atlantic ocean in the Victoria Island area.
The victims, both males were said to have their boat capsized by the Eko Hotel and Suites section of the ocean.
The incident occurred at about 09:12 hours.
Emergency responders at the scene were the Oba Oniru Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders with the support of a private Boat Catheriner crew.
The survivours whose names were given as 20 years Sanu Dewan and 40 years Seraphin Meto were on a journey from Makoko, Ebute-Meta when the accident occurred before they were saved from the jaws of death.
After the rescue, both victims were attended to by appropriate government responders and in stable condition.
The incident was confirmed by Adeseye Margaret, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Also confirming the incident was the LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who said, “The agency’s LRT arrived at the scene of the above mentioned incident, to discover that a dredging vessel had capsized at the aforementioned location.
” Further investigation revealed that two adult males on the vessel had fallen overboard but were immediately rescued by local divers at the scene of the incident.
” They were immediately provided with First aid by the Agency’s paramedics.
“They have since been stabilized and the operation concluded.”
In a related development, Adeseye gave an update about a fire outbreak, “A Fire incident broke out at about 09:48 hours on Friday, at the Craneburg Construction Site-yard, old Julius Berger Yard, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
” The Fire which involved sets of containers used as stores have been curtailed from spreading by the Epe ll Fire Crew of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. The materials used for road construction were stacked in the containerized store as dampening down is ongoing to wrap up the operations.
“No injury or death recorded from the incident.”
