TWO people were presumed dead while two others were injured, on Saturday, in Ogun State when a Mack Truck Tanker and Toyota Hiace bus was involved in an accident
The incident occurred at about 6.15am, at Lenuwa, New Makun on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway (outbound Lagos).
According to eye witnesses’ account, the truck with number plate AKD 549 XL suffered brake failure and ran into the bus with number plate KSF 259 CQ which was travelling in the same direction.
Eye witnesses’ account said there was traffic gridlock along the corridor, in front of Nexus company, outbound Lagos, when the driver of a commercial bus, who was trapped in the traffic, alighted from the bus and trekked forward to check the cause of the gridlock, unfortunately on its way back, he discovered that a truck coming behind, who had lost control, due to break failure, ran into his bus from behind, squeezing it beyond recognition, and killing two occupants of the bus with two others sustaining injuries.
However, men of the Nigeria Police and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) did the needful.
It was learnt that traffic was initially affected in the axis but normalcy has returned at press time.
The presumed dead have been deposited at Idera Hospital while the injured ones are receiving treatment at same hospital.
The accidented vehicles have been taken to Sagamu Divisional Police Command.
Regrettably, the truck driver was said to have disappeared from the scene to avoid been lynched.
TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the development and commiserated with the affected families.
He admonished drivers of articulated vehicles to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and avoid speeding as well as dangerous driving.
