Truck driver dies, motorboy trapped underneath 40ft container in Lagos
… LASTMA rescues victim
CITIZENS COMPASS —THE driver of a 40ft container on Thursday, September 7, 2023, died in an accident while his motorboy got trapped underneath the container around Wharf Road, opposite Area B Police Command outward Apapa.area of Lagos State.
The accident which occurred at about 8.30p.m involved a fully loaded 40ft containerised truck and another stationary truck.
The motor boy of the 40ft containerised truck was fortunate enough to be rescued by men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Giving details about the accident, LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq who confirmed it to newsmen said, LASTMA Egbetola Sulaiman, ‘Zebra 36’ (Apapa) who led the rescue team confirmed that the fatal accident involved a fully loaded 40ft container and an unidentified stationary truck.
“LASTMA Egbetola confirmed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the 40ft loaded container while on top speed lost control and rammed into another stationed tipper truck with tyre problem.
” He disclosed that LASTMA officials and other emergency responders were able to rescue a trapped motor boy while the driver of the loaded 40ft container died instantly.
“While the body of the driver was at the Area B Police Command, the rescued motor boy was immediately rushed to nearby General Hospital at Apapa for medical treatment.
Other emergency responders at the accident scene include Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Bolaji Oreagba however warned truck drivers to always consider other road users and be very careful when driving. “
