CITIZENS COMPASS —The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on weekend, disclosed how a yet to be identified woman was crushed to death at Dalemo bus-stop, along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun State.
The agency also narrated how a mangled body was found near Otedola Bridge in Lagos State.
The Coordinator, Lagos State Territorial District of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye disclosed this in a statement.
He enjoined Nigerians to exercise utmost safety consciousness in this festive period.
“The Agency made the appeal due to deaths recorded during its usual patrol during festive periods along the major highways.
“The Agency observed that a hit and run victim body just after the Mobil Filling Station towards Otedola Bridge outward Lagos had the body mangled by high speeding vehicles and the body cannot be identified.
“The Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) have been alerted to help evacuate the mangled body from the highway to prevent further crushing by moving vehicles.
“Just yesterday evening, an incident involving a articulated truck which had brake failure hit a woman at Dalemo bus stop, Ado Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun State who lost her life on the spot and efforts to reach out to her family members have been futile due to lack of means of identity could help to trace her relations.
“Therefore, NEMA is urging residents around this areas who have not been able to trace their missing relative to contact FRSC Officer, Akowe of the Ota Unit with Tel nos: 08109257844, 08059090151.
“NEMA has been patrolling major highways during these festive periods towards assisting lead Agencies in road safety efforts towards prompt effective and efficient response to any emergency when needed.
“Commuters have also been advised to caution their drivers with due respect and dignity when the driver is observed to be exhausted, tired, fatigued or dosing off on steering and attention of safety officers at the closest point must be drawn to the problem which who would make the driver to take a rest before continuing their journey towards journey mercies.”
