Train crushes man to death in Lagos
CITIZENS COMPASS– A 50-year-old man has met his untimely death over the weekend, in Lagos, when he was crushed to death by a train.
The accident leading to the man’s death was said to have occurred around Oshodi.
Citizens Compass reports that the deceased simply identified as Emmanuel, was crushed to death near the Arena Shopping Mall, Bolade/Oshodi.
The deceased’s sister, whose identity could not be ascertained, reportedly told the police that she received a call around 9 a.m., informing her that her elder brother had been tragically hit by a moving train.
Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, confirmed that the Mosafejo Division was alerted to the incident at about 1:33 p.m. A team of detectives was promptly dispatched to the scene.
“The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives,” Hundeyin said, adding, “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”
He said the matter has been transferred to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation.
At press time, the details surrounding the accident could not be ascertained but a similar incident occurred in August in the Mushin area, where a man was fatally struck by a moving train.
The accident reportedly took place at about 6 p.m., as the victim walked along the Cappa railway tracks.
However, spokesperson, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, said the Agency did not have reports of such accident.
He disclosed this in a chat with Citizens Compass.
