Traditional ruler celebrates 1st anniversary in Ikorodu

CITIZENS COMPASS —The traditional ruler of Agura Town in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oba Moruf Ogunaike, (Ogunderu 1) on Sunday, celebrated, with pomp and pageantry, his first year on the throne.
The week-long event was rounded off at the Community Primary School in the Agura area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Citizens Compass reports that the coronation includes a series of events with distributions of 18, 000 writing materials to primary school pupils in the community.
As part of the anniversary, the monarch also conferred some personalities with chieftaincy titles.
Speaking at the event, the monarch said he was grateful to God for sparing his life to clock one year on the throne as the ruler of Agura and appreciated residents and indigenes for their support.
“I want to thank God, Lagos Ministry of Chieftaincy affairs, my community and well-wishers.
“I also appreciate the monarchs and especially the Ikorodu Local Government chairman for the successful anniversary.
“Agura community is peaceful and calm now compared with when I had not been crowned,” the traditional rulers said.
Earlier, Mr Wasiu Adesina, Chairman, of Ikorodu local government urged residents to join hands with the monarch in bringing more developmental projects to the community.
He appreciated Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State for embarking on the second phase of the Agura road to ease residents’ hardship on the community’s bad road.
The Council Chairman added that Ikorodu Local Government also plans to embark on light-up projects and surfacing of identified roads and other developmental projects.
“I am very elated and happy witnessing the first anniversary of Alagura because I was in office when he was selected.
“I want to appreciate everybody that has attended the anniversary, live in peace and people to support and join hands with him.
“The traditional ruler provided 18, 000 writing materials to pupils in primary schools and facilitated developmental projects to the community.
“On our part as local government, we are trying our best to provide amenities including, light-up some areas and surpassing some identified roads,” Adesina said.
Speaking, Mr Wale Daisi, Bobagunwa of Agura land called on the government at all levels to solve the challenges of bad roads adding that residents go through untold hardship, especially during the rainy season.
Earlier, Mr Babatunde Rotinwa, former chairman, of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission and chairman, of the planning committee advised LASG to move development to rural communities like Agura to reduce the concentration as the next Victoria Garden City (VGC) of the state.
