Tokunbo Abiru distributes food packs to 6,000 people in Lagos East
CITIZENS COMPASS —The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, distributed over 6,000 Food Packs to vulnerable members of the society in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
It will be recalled that the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District launched the quarterly Food Packs Programme in June, 2023.
This is the second edition of the well applauded programme targeted at vulnerable people, namely; widows, unemployed youth, aged,women and People living with disabilities are drawn across the 98 wards in the 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development areas of the district.
Constituents trooped out enmasse to various collections in Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Somolu and Kosofe LGAs to collect the Food Packs containing:Goldenvita, Semo Vita, Garri,Pure Soya Oil,Spread(Butter), Granulated Sugar,Pasta Couscous,Pasta Macaroni, Pasta Spaghetti, Noodles Jollof, Noodles GMPS and Amazing Day Breakfast Cereal.
In his remarks, Senator Abiru, fondly called the #DoingGood Senator, said the food packs programme was a direct intervention to the people at the grassroot who are feeling the heat of the economic pangs occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy.
According to him, the Food Packs will support the most vulnerable households in this challenging period.
The Senator also assured that he will not relent in championing legislations, programmes and interventions that will have lasting impacts on the larger number of the constituents of Lagos East.
He said SAIL Innovation Lab, the first of its kind Innovation Lab in Lagos East, founded by him and his wife, Feyisola was set up to offer sustainable and globally competitive jobs and opportunities to young people of the district. Senator Abiru said a sizable number of youths had been trained in digital and tech related programmes that are well sought-after globally.
On the critical Ikorodu-Itokin road which serves as a major road that links the Ikorodu to Epe and Ibeju-Lekki, and other parts of the country, he assured that the new government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown commitment to implement the awarded rehabilitation project.
It is imperative to state that this is not the first direct humanitarian assistance for the needy that the distinguished Senator Abiru has done. It will be recalled that the Lagos East Senator disbursed more than N150 million Naira in about 24 months to over 2,500 vulnerable people under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme. Every month, beneficiaries received direct credit of N5,000 each for the period the programme lasted.
Some of the beneficiaries who expressed gratitude to Senator Abiru include; Muftau Adegboyega Tojuowo, a Person Living with Disability, other include, Anuoluwapo Zainab, Tiletile Kazeem Idowu, Folake Akerele and Niyi Oyeniran.
Dignitaries at the Ikorodu distribution venue include : Dr Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle – the Special Adviser to the Senator on Constituency Matters, Hon (Mrs) Adebimpe Akinsola,Alhaji Rilwan Ishola Jinadu,Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi, Arc Taiwo Kara, Alhaji F O Lasisi, Alhaji Mondiu Jimoh and Hon Sefiu Ogunyemi, amongst others.
