Take It Back Movement raises alarm over ‘abduction’ of Lagos nurse

CITIZENS COMPASS – A group of human rights activists under the aegis of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement on Friday, raised alarm over what it described as an illegal ‘abduction’ of a nurse, Olamide Abiodun Thomas in Lagos State.

TIB said the Nurse was ‘abducted’ by the Nigeria Police force.

TIB spokesperson in a statement signed by Olabiyi Ade Stephen, said, “The official statement of the Take it Back Movement on the illegal abduction of Nurse Olamide Abiodun Thomas by the Nigeria Police force.

“We are alarmed and outraged by the abduction of Nurse Olamide Abiodun Thomas by men of the Nigeria Police Force. Her only offense was speaking truth to power, exposing the shenanigans, injustice, and fraudulent activities she witnessed in a Police Station.

“As a law-abiding citizen, Nurse Thomas exercised her fundamental right to freedom of expression as enshrined in Section 39 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which states:

“Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference.”

“We condemn the Nigeria Police Force’s blatant disregard for the Constitution and the fundamental human rights of Nurse Thomas. We demand her immediate and unconditional release.

“We call on the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, to take immediate action to secure Nurse Thomas’s release and ensure that her rights are respected.

“The Nigeria Police Force must respect the Constitution and protect the rights of all citizens, including Nurse Thomas. Her abduction is a clear case of intimidation and harassment, aimed at silencing her and suppressing the truth.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and demand justice for Nurse Thomas.”

At press time, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached.
