Special Assistant continues distribution of fertilisers to South-west farmers

 

CITIZENS COMPASS–The Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture and Food Security, Abiodun Yinusa, has organised the second phase of the distribution of fertilizers to the South-west farmers.

It took place on Wednesday, at the secretariat of Iru-Victoria Island Local Government in Lagos State.

Present at the event were representatives of the council chairman, Princess Rasheedat Abiodun Adu, and various public officers across the southwestern region. 

The Special Assistant was represented by Messirs Taiwo Ayedun, former Senior Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to former Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode and Rafiu Lawal, Personal Assistant to Special Adviser, who in their goodwill messages assured the farmers of more support from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

The working team also comprises the representative of All Farmers  Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos state chapter, Prince Segun Adeyeye and the President of  “She Farmers Association of Nigeria”, Mrs Temitope Ande and Mechanized Agro-farmer expert, Engr. Oyegunle Taofeeq, who admonished all stakeholders to embrace this initiative that is being flagged-off in Lagos with the intention to spread it across the entire South-West in the coming days..

“The government is ready and willing to closely work with farmers and other stakeholders in the agro processing value chain by providing necessary support aimed at facilitating improved mechanised farming, capacity building, agro processing equipments and ensuring consistent supply agricultural inputs as well as other support services that will guarantee increase in food production,” said Mr Lawal.

The Chairman of the farmers Association, Takwa-bay, also thanked the government and representatives for the laudable programme to enhance Agriculture and food security in the country especially his zone and the South western part of the country in general.

An interactive session was conducted by Mrs Temitope  Ande who educated the farmers on the government’s intention and intervention to enhance agriculture and food security in the country. 

The fertilizers were presented to beneficiaries across board with assurance that other states within the region will begin to get their own bulk immediately.

Barely a week ago, Citizens Compass reported that the Special Adviser flagged-off distribution of 5,000  bags of  fertilisers to South-West farmers in the country.

The event which was held at the Lagos State Farm Centre, Agege, played host to stakeholders in the farming, agro processing and food production value chain.

It was organised under the agies of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Intervention for Farmers and facilitated by the Special Adviser
