Sowore explains why he rallied round corp member who criticised Tinubu
CITIZENS COMPASS– Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has explained why he rallied support forUshie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a viral video on TikTok.
She is serving in Lagos State,
Uguamaye was said to have hailed from Cross River State criticising the administration via her TikTok Handle, @talktoraye while expressing frustration over the rising cost of food items in Nigeria and thereafter described the President as “terrible” for not being sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians.
The leadership of NYSC has since summoned the corp member over her utterances.
However, she had received legal support from Sowore who yesterday, disclosed why he rallied round the corp member.
Speaking on a television programme, Sowore said, “I really, really appreciate what she did. And that’s why I followed her and was surprised at her immense courage. We were worried that she might succumb to pressure, but that did not happen.
“I think the senator from her constituency has been mounting pressure on her. Someone called her and her lawyer that the chief of staff to the president would like to see her, and that they were planning to take her to Abuja but she refused and we told her to stay calm and remain focused.
“Based on her refusal, they started distributing her photographs claiming that her lifestyle is not in tandem with her complaints.
“This was put together to silence and shut her down.
“I was surprised because I saw one of her videos about two days ago where she responded to the people who have been trying to shut her down. We are with her and others who are speaking out wherever they might be, whether you are a corp member, soldier, policeman and any other profession. I am glad that Nigerians stood by her. “
