Sanwo-Olu appoints new General Manager for LASTMA
… As Agency impounds 15 tankers in Apapa
CITIZENS COMPASS —The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved with immediate effect the appointment of Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan as the Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Spokesperson of the Agency, Adebayo Taofiq disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
He said the statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa noted that the appointment of Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan is for better performance, eradicating incidences of misdemeanours among staffs and continued efficient/effective traffic management on Lagos roads.
It reads, “The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved with immediate effect the appointment of Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan as the Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
“A statement by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transportation Mr. Olawale Musa noted that the appointment of Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan is for better performance, eradicating incidences of misdemeanours among staffs and continued efficient/effective traffic management on Lagos roads.
“Bakare-Oki Olalekan joined the Lagos State Public Service on April 25, 2000 and rose through the ranks over the years to the post of Deputy Director, Logistics and Engineering Department of LASTMA, before his new appointment as General Manager.
“He holds a Masters Degree in Transportation Planning and Management from University of Lagos and has attended several capacity-building programmes on inter-modal traffic management systems locally and internationally.
*Congratulating the newly appointed General Manager, Olawale Musa urged him to justify Governor Sanwo-Olu’s confidence in his appointment by rising up to the occasion, while bringing his wealth of experience to take the Agency to greater heights.
“The Permanent Secretary also conveyed the appreciation and gratitude of Mr. Governor to the outgoing General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, for his commitment, dedication and meritorious service to the state.”
Oki is taking over from Bolaji Oreagba.
Management applauds appointment of Acting GM
Meanwhile, LASTMA management had applauded the appointment of its new Acting General Manager.
This was contained in an early morning statement posted to LASTMA Media platform by Adebayo on Friday, November 24, 2023.
It reads, “The entire management and staff of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority wish to express our profound gratitude and appreciation for the appointment of Mr. Bakare-Oki, Olalekan as the Acting General Manager of the Agency.
“We are grateful for the confidence and belief which Mr. Governor reposes in the ability and competence of another foundation member of the Organization to lead us into a new, clean and enviable era of reformation and re-positioning which the Agency is being piloted under the direction of the Special Adviser on Transportation, Honourable Shakirudeen Olushola Giwa.
“We pledge our undiluted dedication and focused commitment on our mandate to dutifully and diligently serve the the public towards an improved overall traffic control, management and orderly road regime that translates to economic prosperity and societal development in all its ramifications.

.. Impounds 15 tankers
Meanwhile, the Agency said it had impounded 15 tankers obstructing free flow of traffic on Oshodi -Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
Adebayo disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
“Operatives of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today during another strict enforcement operation impounded 15 tankers parked indiscriminately along 2nd Rainbow down to Mile 2 Bridge, Oshodi -Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
“The enforcement operations was carried out on the directives of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation Hon. Sola Giwa.
“It was further confirmed that some of the impounded tankers were apprehended inside Mile 2 Estates after investigations revealed that some of them now parked indiscriminately thereby causing serious traffic for Motorists coming out from the Estates.
“According to Mr. Peter Gbejemede (LASTMA Director of Operations) the enforcement exercise was in accordance with the Law and would be continuous until zero tolerance is achieved on illegal/ indiscriminate parking across the State.
“The Transportation Special Adviser has therefore urged Motorists to collaborate with the government by informing LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck via the Agency hotlines; 08100565860, 08129928515 & 08129928593.
