Residents speak on arrest of teacher who assaulted pupil in Ikorodu
CITIZENS COMPASS –Residents of Olainukan, Isawo in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, on Saturday, applauded the State government and the Nigeria Police following the arrest of a teacher who assaulted a pupil at a private school in the area.
A video of the teacher, Stella Nwadigo, who allegedly assaulted the three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, had gone viral within the week prompting law enforcement operatives to swing into action and effected the arrest.
The alleged assault occurred at Christ-Mitots Schools.
Speaking with Citizens Compass, a resident of Olainukan, Pade Alujo, said the residents were unhappy with the assault and called for thorough investigations into the allegations.
Another resident, Pius Oziegbe, said the residents on getting wind of the alleged assault alerted the officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) who apprehended the teacher and handed over her to the Owutu Division for interrogation. He said, “The arrest was possible through the efforts of LNSC. We are in support of the government over this matter.
“It will serve as a deterrent to others.”
Meanwhile, Michael’s mother has condemned the assault of her son.
In a viral video, she had reported the teacher to the school authorities without luck until the viral video of the assault went viral.
“I work in the same school where this teacher beat my son,” she said. “This is not the first time she has done this. I reported the matter to the school management, but nothing was done. I am all alone—his father is no longer alive. I do menial jobs to survive. I want justice for my son, and I need help from Nigerians to support his education.”
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency in an update on X.com on Thursday stated that the teacher pleaded not guilty to the charges read to her.
The 45-year-old teacher was remanded by the Ogba Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday but was later granted bail.
