Queues resurface as petrol sells at new price in Lagos
CITIZENS COMPASS–Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol was sold at N850 per litre in some parts of Lagos State on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Despite the skyrocketed pump price, some gas stations dispensing the product experienced long queues of motorists and other consumers of the product.
Similarly, there was traffic gridlock in some parts of the State following the long queues.
Checks by our Correspondent revealed an increase in fares by many commercial operators and private car owners.
Some commuters said the fares were jacked up by 50 per cent which brought about lamentation.
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ikorodu Road, Lekki-/Ajah, Ogudu, Alapere, Alimosho and Agbado-Ijaiye to mention but a few were greeted by gridlock.
At many of the gas stations visited by our Correspondent, the product was dispensed at N850 while a few dispensed it below N800.
In a chat with Citizens Compass, some respondents urged government to find a solution to the challenges.
At Berger area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a public servant, Robinson Chiwendo said if the situation persists, he may stay out of work for some days. “I can’t afford the fares, May stay out of work for some days.” He said.
At Ogudu, a car owner, Kunle Akinloye said the situation had already taken its toll on his income. “Within a week, I have spent N50,000 on fuel to transport myself within Lagos.” He lamented.
