Pure water driver, assistant, trapped in Lagos accident

…As LASTMA rescues victims 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS – Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in Monday, July 1, 2024, rescued the driver of a pure water mini-truck and his assistant who were trapped in an accident near Adeniji inward Sura.area of Lagos State.

The accident which occurred in the morning involved a sachet water mini truck with number plates SMK 796 YE, and Two Mazda vehicles, AGL 576 TG and AKD 531 YC. 

It was gathered that the truck driver lost control due to brake failure and collided with the Mazda cars.

However, no life was lost to the incident which was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, who said the accident occurred near Adeniji inward Sura, descending from the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

In a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA on Monday, he said, 

“Early this morning, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to a serious accident, rescuing a trapped driver and his assistant from under a mini truck loaded with pure water.

“The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, confirmed that the accident occurred near Adeniji inward Sura, descending from the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

“Hon. Giwa stated that the accident involved a Pure Water Mini Truck (SMK 796 YE) and two Mazda vehicles (AGL 576 TG and AKD 531 YC). 

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the mini truck lost control due to brake failure, colliding with the two Mazda cars.

“Despite the government’s ongoing campaign to educate motorists about speed limits and the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly the braking system, Hon. Giwa noted that drivers continue to flout the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

“He urged all drivers, including truck operators and private car owners, to avoid speeding and to check their vehicles before driving within and outside the state.

“The injured driver and his assistant were immediately taken to the hospital by the truck’s owner. 

“LASTMA personnel promptly cleared all accident vehicles to ensure a free flow of traffic towards Lagos Island.

“Hon. Sola Giwa emphasized the importance of safety while driving and expressed his sympathies to those injured in the accident. 

“He urged all motorists, including truck drivers to refrain from speeding during any journey within or outside Lagos.”
