Pregnant woman, children suffer burns in Lagos gas explosion

… Building, tricycles, lock-up shops razed 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –Nine persons including a pregnant woman, children and adults have suffered varying degrees of burns during a gas explosion in Ajegunle, Lagos on Tuesday.

Those injured are said to be recuperating at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre after First Aids treatment was applied on them by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The Director, Lagos State Fire Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye confirmed the development to Citizens Compass in her updates.

According to her, some gas cylinders exploded through susceptible leakages at Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community of Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos at about 12:39hours.

She said, “The explosion of gas cylinders at Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community of Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos, which  occurred at about 12:39hours on Tuesday has been doused by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a number of various gas cylinders traded within the neighbourhood have one triggered from a susceptible leakage leading to the snapping of a high tension cable and resultant Fire.

“The incident which was curtailed in record time through the combined efforts of the Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu Fire Stations of the LSFRS with the compliment of the Federal Fire Service left four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, a bungalow part of properties razed down while salvaging adjoining structures including a major fuel service station.

“However, nine peoples reportedly suffered different degrees of burnt injury including a pregnant woman, children and adults male and female that are recuperating at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre after some first aids by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.”
