Popular Gospel singer, ‘Aduke Gold’ (Nitori Ogo’) is dead
CITIZENS COMPASS—One of the young Gospel singers in Nigeria, Aduke Ajayi popularly known as A Duke Gold has joined her creator.
The female singer was said to have died overnight though details of what led to her death could not be ascertained at press time.
A top female Gospel singer, Esther Igbekele, shared the sudden eclipse of ‘Aduke Gold’ on her Facebook page on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
A popular On Air Personality, Dayo Ajiteru, popularly known as Bishop Ori Radio also broke the news about the death of ‘Aduke Gold’ on his early morning belt, ‘Olekenka’, on Gbedu FM, on Tuesday.
Similarly, a social media presenter, Oluwayemisi Balogun, posted a tribute to the late Singer on her Facebook page.
She said, “Like am still. in the mood of I don’t believe is true. People called and chatted me up about what happened to Aduke Gold .I said nothing but was later confirmed by two or three gospel singers confirmed it was true but I didn’t believe it. I called her number but off. Pls, my people is it true that Aduke Gold is gone 🥱🥱 😭 😭 Jeeeeeeeesu mi ooooooo. This is too much so, Oluwaaaaaaa can I say rip? Or maybe she is still sleeping. Pls let’s be patient oo..aduke gold is sleeping ni o.”
Our Correspondent put a call across the cell phone of Aduke Gold’s but it was not responding.
According to Igbekele: “A general has fallen. RIP.”
Tributes have been pouring in from members of the Gospel Musician’s Association of Nigeria (GOMAN), on their various social media handles.
Aduke Gold’s death came a few months after the death of another prominent Gospel singer, Morenikeji Adeleke, aka Egbin popularly known as Egbin Orun, on April 28, 2024.
Aduke Gold came into the limelight in the early 20s when she was about 14 years old but her album, “Nitori Ogo’’ gained momentum when the Christian fold could not attend physical gatherings and church on air gained expansion.
She became an orphan at about four years old, after which she faced numerous challenges as a young one. She often shared her story of of hawking goods at a tender age. Her battle with vertigo, which caused frequent fainting spells, further complicated her early years but did not deter her from pursuing her musical calling.
She held a degree in History and International Relations from the prestigious Lagos State University (LASU), thanks to a scholarship from a popular politician, Opeyemi Bamidele.
She also earned a higher degree in Child Psychology and several diplomas in various fields including Montessori education, special education, and music.
As a teenager, the young Aduke Gold’ featured in the then gatherings on musicians across the federation, Praise Night organised by popular Gospel artist Timi Osukoya (now Timi Orokoya) in the early 20s, at Amule-Asipa in Ayobo, Lagos State.
