Popular actor, Mr Ibu laid to rest 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –Popular actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu was on Friday, June 28, 2024, laid to rest.

The ceremony which was held in Enugu State was captured in a viral video.

The video captured able young men clad in corporate black uniform, carrying Mr Ibu’s casket on their shoulders to the venue of the burial, while they danced in unison, to musical instruments playing in the background.

Mr Ibu’s brother, Sunday Okafor, in a statement said, “The Okafor family at Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA for Enugu State wish to honour the loving memory of our hero and legend, who even in death left a legacy of love, laughter and liveliness.”

It will be recalled that Mr Ibu died on March 2, 2024, after his  battle with a “strange and dangerous illness” as he described at the time.

Stella Maris, widow of the late comic actor was visibly overwhelmed with emotion on Monday, when she attended a joint night of tribute in honour of her late husband alongside two other legendary actors, Amaechi Muonagor and Zulu Adigwe.

While Mr Ibu passed away on March 2, after battling with a protracted illness, Amaechi Muonagor died two weeks later, on March 24, after suffering from kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. Similarly, Zulu Adigwe died on the 23rd of April.

The joint night of tribute was organized by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and held in four cities across the country, including Abuja, Lagos, Asaba, and Enugu.
