CITIZENS COMPASS – A police officer attached to the Ekiti State Police Command has accidentally killed a nursing mother, Ifeoluwa Adekalu, while celebrating the promotion of a colleague.
He has been arrested as investigations commence into the matter.
Ekiti State Commissioner of Police , Adewale Adeniran, has confirmed the arrest.
It was gathered that the officer, a member of the Special Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ekiti State Command, allegedly killed the mother of one, at the Okela police post in Ado Ekiti on Thursday afternoon.
It was learnt that the officer accidentally killed the nursing mother who was crossing the road near the police post.
The suspect was said to have visited the post from another station when he accidentally fired a shot in celebration of the promotion of one of his colleagues. Unfortunately, the deceased was hit by a bullet.
It was gathered that Ifeoluwa was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead.
The Commissioner stated that the officer would undergo proper interrogation in line with the Nigerian Police Act.
Ifeoluwa Adekalu, a resident of Ondo State, was said to be struggling to make ends meet when the unfortunate incident occurred.
