Police rescue victim, arrest suspected cultists in Ogun
CITIZENS COMPASS – OPERATIVES of Ogun State Police Command have arrested five suspected cultists and rescued a victim, Ogwu Uzoma, who was held hostage by the suspects.
The operation was carried out in Aboro area of the State on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
The arredt followed a distress call received from a concerned citizen who narrated how the community was threatened by the endless panic constituted by these hooligans.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle Isaac alongside other security agencies embarked on an aggressive raid following the credible source, patrolling around and within the Matogun community which led to the arrest of the suspected cultists.
Spokesperson of the Command, Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest to Citizens Compass in a statement on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
She put the suspects’ name as Adetayo Ismaila “m” 42yrs, Kunle Oluwole “m” 37yrs, Ibrahim Ademosun “m” 31yrs, Meshach Olaide “m” 31yrs and Dare Kehinde “m” 35yrs
She said, “The cultists attacked the Divisional Police Officer and his team who went to rescue one Ogwu Uzoma “m” presently under medical attention at Ayodele Hospital, Matogun, that was brutally injured by the suspected cultists. “They had earlier boasted that they would kill him, if Uzoma the victim did not clear out his account for them.
” Dangerous Items recovered are broken bottles, cutlasses, knives and a significant amount of cannabis pointing to the fact that they are under the influence of hard drugs.” “Investigation revealed that they are members of Aiye Confraternity and have been instrumental to series of early morning attacks, waylaying persons who close from night duty on their way back home.
” The CP has been briefed and has ordered that they are immediately charged to Court to face the criminal justice system.* Said the spokesperson.
