Police rescue nine abducted students in Delta
CITIZENS COMPASS —The Nigeria Police Force have rescued nine students who were abducted by suspected gunmen in the State. The students were abducted as their abductors were said to have demanded ₦10m.
The students were said to be travelling along the East-West in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state when the gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen struck.
The Sienna space bus they were travelling in was hijacked on Friday while travelling from Calabar at the Evwreni axis of the East-West Road.
Sources said the space bus conveying the group of students coming from Calabar in Cross River State was hijacked on Friday Night within the Evwreni axis and the kidnappers demanded N10 million ransom.
The students were said to have regained their freedom but details could not be established at press time.
Spokesman, Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe confirmed their freedom in a chat with Citizens Compass at about 10.34p.m on Monday, April 1, 2024.
He said, “All nine of them have regained their freedom pls”
Recall that on February 24, 8 persons who were returning from Benin City, Edo State to Yenagoa were kidnapped from a Coaster Bus along Ughelli-Patani road, Ughelli North by unknown gunmen after which three females and one male were released.
It was learnt that Police from Ughelli A’ division visited the scene of the crime, though it could not be ascertained if the other three persons were rescued or released on a later date.
