Police reply Kano governor on directive to stop Bayero as Emir

CITIZENS COMPASS – The Kano State Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, has shunned the order of the State Governor, Abba Yusuf’s to remove the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero from the mini palace he currently occupies in the Nasarawa axis of the State.

The governor’s order was conveyed through the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi.

It was issued on Thursday night.
However, in a telephone conversation on Friday, June 21, 2024, the CP explained that the state government had filed a suit
at the State High Court regarding the matter and the hearing had been scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024.

He explained that he would not carry out the Governor’s directive because of this.
“The police will not evict Aminu Ado Bayero because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,”

Reports reaching Citizens Compass from Kano said that security has been beefed up around the Nasarawa mini palace.

Police were said to have deployed additional personnel to the area and major routes leading to the palace have been blocked by security personnel, a situation that has heightened tension in Kano.

In a telephone conversation, a resident of Kano, Mr Tochukwu Samson, said he had instructed his family members to avoid staying up late at night to avoid the unforeseen.

“As I speak, both emirs are carrying out their traditional assignments and nobody knows what may happen next as a result. I have instructed my family to avoid staying late outside the home.”

Recall that the state government had deposed Bayero and reinstalled Muhammad Sanusi repealing the 2019 Emirate Council law that established five emirates from the original Kano Emirate.

With all Emirs sacked, the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, who had been sacked by the Abdullahi Ganduje administration in March 2020, was reinstated as 16th Emir to replace Aminu Ado Bayero, who was consumed by the repeal of the law.
