Police invite NLC President, Secretary 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS–Nigeria Police Force yesterday, invited the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Joe Ajaero, alongside the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja to the Force Intelligence Department over alleged criminal intimidation and others.

The invite to the NLC President and Secreywas contained in a letter signed by the Commissioner of Police on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General Police, Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, Ibitoye Alajide .

The NLC President and Secretary are expected to visit the FID office on 5 September 2024.

The letter has invited the union leaders to their office.

It reads, “In furtherance of investigations into the alleged case of Criminal Intimidation, Conducts Likely to Cause Breach of Public Peace and Malicious Damage to Properties in which your name featured.

“You are requested to come along with Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department through the undersigned, at SPO’s Room 212, 2nd Floor, Force Intelligence Department Complex, Shehu Shagari way, opposite Force Headquarters Area 11, Garki, Abuja on Thursday, 5th September 2024 at 11 am.”

Recall that on Thursday, 29th August, the NLC President honoured the Police invitation over alleged terrorism financing, treason and other charges.

The NLC President arrived at the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, at about 11.15 a.m in the company of some prominent lawyers.led by Femi Falana, SAN.

Addressing journalists shortly after the invite, the NLC President said that the labour union has been one of the most steadfast supporters of Nigeria, demonstrating unwavering patriotism from the colonial era through the military regimes.

The NLC President stated that the NLC is more committed to the nation than any other institution in the country.

The NLC President said, “I want to thank all my comrades in the struggle. The Labour Movement is one of Nigeria’s biggest supporters. Our patriotism, from the days of colonialism to the military era, is unshakeable. We are more patriotic than any other institution you can think of in this country.

“We went there, and we are back. I am confirming to you that, as a citizen, I have gone there, and we have returned… Way back in 1997/98, Falana and I were together in a cell, enjoying ourselves during the Abacha era. So, this is one of the hazards of our job.”
