Police impound130 bikes, arrest five persons as Okada riders go on rampage in Lagos
LAGOS State Police Command has impounded 130 motorcycles and arrested five persons while enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles in Idi-Araba area of Lagos State.
This however resulted in a clash as the riders went on rampage in the area.
Problem started at about 9am when an enforcement team arrived Ojuelegba Road to carry out their routine assignment but the riders were said to have attempted to resist this.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the team applied professionalism and impounded 130 bikes.
An eye witness Bola Adegoke said the incidents resulted in apprehension as the riders trooped out to vent their anger on innocent people.
The made bonfire on the road and intimidated many. This extended to the Idi-Araba area as people ran Helter skelter.
“Police succeeded in dispersing them and five of those formenting trouble were arrested.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command Spokesperson said, a total number of 130 bikes were impounded while five persons were arrested in connection with the crisis.
The Spokesperson on his Twitter handle said, “They can’t fight because Taskforce went well prepared. They were just causing a scene after the Taskforce left with some of their impounded motorcycles. @rrslagos767 and men from the Area Command have since been drafted there. Absolutely nothing to worry about.” He said.
