Police arrest suspected cult leader in Lagos

…Recover locally made pistol live cartridges

CITIZENS COMPASS —Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cult leader who attempted to forcefully take over a tricycle (Keke Marwa) park alongside with others in the Fadeyi area of the state.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday, January 1, 2024, in Lagos.

According to him, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday by operatives attached to the Onipanu Police Division.

He added that one locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered during the arrest.

Hundeyin explained that the police received information that six suspected cult members were harassing commercial tricycle operators at the Keke Marwa Park in the Fadeyi area.

Following the information, the PPRO said a team of anti-crime operatives immediately went to the scene and one Seun Olatunbosu was arrested.

“The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, including guns, cutlasses, and axes, disrupted the activities of the park and also tried to attack the chairman of the said park.

“On receipt of the information, a team of anti-crime operatives immediately went to the scene, and one Seun Olatunbosu, 29 years old, was arrested with one locally made pistol and two live cartridges while others escaped,” he said.

The command’s spokesperson said that during the investigation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang,” he added.

Similarly, officers from the Igando Division of the state Command arrested two suspects, Hammed Olawale and Japhet Oderinde, during a rival cult clash last Wednesday with a locally fabricated semiautomatic pistol recovered from the suspects.
