Police arrest Labour Party Chair, Abure, drag him on floor
CITIZENS COMPASS —Some video clips are currently circulating on social media which captured the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure being arrested by the Police.
He was said to be arrested on Wednesday.
In the video, Abure was seen being dragged on the floor during the arrest.
Before his arrest, some party members have criticized him severally on television alleging him of fraud.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, on Wednesday, said that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, was arrested following a petition written against him by a faction of the party.
He disclosed this in a statement released a few hours after Abure and Edo chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, were whisked away by policemen in Benin, the state capital.
According to him, the national chairman and his Edo state counterpart were arrested after having a meeting with a team of Department of State Services and police officers.
He said, “The Labour Party on Tuesday had a very successful delegate election in Benin ahead of the party lrimaries scheduled to hold on Friday. The party chairman only this morning along with party governorship aspirants also kept a scheduled security briefing with the Department of State Services. Abure was however arrested after the meeting by a combined team of DSS and police officers. Abure, Ogbaloi and their aides were also manhandled.
