CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jan dour, has filed a petition before the governorship election tribunal in the state.
He is challenging the victory of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the March 18 Gubernatorial election in the state.
In the petition, Jandor asked the tribunal to disqualify the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, ,Babajide Sanwo-Olu and that of Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for “non-compliance” with the Electoral Act 2022 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the petition marked EPT/LAG/GOV/01/2023 dated April 7, the PDP and Jandor noted that APC failed to comply with the INEC timetable.
The respondents of the petition include INEC (1st respondent), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (2nd respondent); Obafemi Hamzat Lagos-elect deputy governorship candidate (3rd respondent); APC (4th respondent); Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (5th respondent); and the LP (6th respondent.
Jandor added that Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Hamzat, and Rhodes-Vivour were not suitable to contest the poll.
“The 2nd and 3rd respondents, although not duly sponsored and not qualified, contested along with the 1st petitioner and others for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject matter of this petition.
” Similarly, the 5th and 6th respondents, although not duly sponsored and not qualified, contested along with the 1st petitioner and others for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject matter of this petition.
“The 1st respondent, upon the conclusion of the election, declared the 2nd respondent who was not properly sponsored by the 4th respondent as the winner of the election to the office of governor of Lagos state.
” The 5th respondent who was similarly not properly sponsored by the 6th respondent was declared by the 1st respondent as having scored the second highest number of votes at the election to the office of governor of Lagos state,” the petition reads.
