……Police uncover criminal hideout

CITIZENS COMPASS– A concerned citizen has caused alarm over the spate of killings, maimings and robbery at the Sagamu Interchange area of Ogun State.

The unidentified citizen said the Interchange has turned into a dangerous zone to commuters and residents.

The citizen raised the alarm on social media which went viral on Wednesday.

The message titled, “Sagamu Interchange is a dangerous zone”, reads, “I am typing this with a heavy heart but I think it is necessary so that my brothers and sisters, families and friends can be aware of what is going on around us. We really need to know that Sagamu interchange has turned into the most dangerous zone among other zones around Ogun State.

A Pastor who happened to be my wife’s uncle went for a vigil on 21th of March, 2025 at Mowe. On Saturday 22nd of March, he was coming back from Mowe heading to Wasinmi where he was living and having His prayer ground called Ori-Oke Asegun. A vehicle going to Ibadan dropped him around 6a.m under the bridge at Sagamu interchange where he wanted to board another vehicle going to Abeokuta and he was attacked by bad guys. Lo and behold, he was brutally cut with Cutlasses and other weapons. He didn’t get help until around 7 to 8a.m. He was later taken to nearby Hospital but he later died. Surprisingly, there was a report from the Hospital that his case was number 4 coming from the same location on that very day into this very hospital without knowing how many have been taken to other hospitals for treatment.

“My wife and I attended his burial yesterday at Wasinmi, Ogun, State. It was a sorrowful event.

“I also learnt about a young lady coming from Lagos who was attacked at the same sport by these same guys while trying to climb the bridge to board a vehicle coming to Sagamu. In her own case, she was lucky. She only sustained a lot of injuries on her head.

“My Brothers and Sisters, my Mummies and Daddies, please let’s inform our families and friends *not to drop at Sagamu interchange for any reason* . It is a dangerous zone. These bad guys are killing innocent people on daily basis all because of Gadgets(phone and others).

“Ogun State Government need to do something drastic to stop these guys from killing innocent people. Until then, everyone should avoid Sagamu Interchange.”

Reacting, the Ogun State Police Command assured safety in the axis.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, spokesperson for the Command, Omolola Odutola, said, “Ogun State Police Command Enhances Security at Sagamu Interchange, Assures Citizens of Safety.

“The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures at the four intersections of the Sagamu Interchange to ensure the safety of residents and commuters.

“This follows recent concerns over security in the area, including reports circulating on social media about an incident on the 21st of March, 2025.

“While no such incident was formally reported at any police station, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has proactively led efforts to reinforce security at the Sagamu interchange.

“As part of these measures, personnel from the Quick Response Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 have been strategically stationed at key locations, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along the inward and outward routes of the four intersections.

“A two-hour assessment of the area conducted by the Commissioner of Police, revealed illegal trading activities and presence of touts. Earlier in the day, a criminal hideout was discovered in the surrounding bush at the interchange and three suspects were arrested.

“Thereafter An immediate disbandment of illegal trading activities under the interchanged bridge was carried out

“To further enhance security at the interchange the Commissioner of Police has engaged members of the transport Union to redirect traffic towards well-lit and secure areas.

“While Ogun State remains relatively peaceful, the police command urges citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to criminal activities.

“As a precautionary measure, commuters are advised to plan their travels early to minimize security risks.

“With increased security presence , collaborative efforts of sister security agencies, and continued support of his excellency , the governor of Ogun State, citizens are assured of the safety of our highways.”
