Passenger escapes as train kills Okada rider in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS – A yet-to-be identified commercial motorcyclist has lost his life while his passenger escaped unhurt after the Okada was hit by a train in Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at about 6.30pm, at PWD inward G. R. A.
Coincidentally, the only passenger with the rider, a female, escaped unhurt.
According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the train was on motion while the rider was approaching the railway crossing.
Our Correspondent gathered that workers around the area flagged him down to draw his attention but he ignored them and made an attempt to hurriedly cross the track, unfortunately for him, he was hit by the train and lost his life on the spot.
As gathered, the passenger jumped as far as her strength could carry her, to survive being trapped in the accident.
An eye witness, Mr Gabriel Abanikanda said the survivor said she could not escape how she survived the accident.
It was learnt that the train was journeying inward Oshodi, while the rider refused to obey traffic instruction as he approached the railway crossing despite being flagged down by railway workers .
At press time, the deceased was lying beside the track clad in Red trousers and pink top as onlookers besieged the scene.
The incident occurred barely three months after a staff bus with Lagos State Government collided with a train sending many of its occupants including a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to their early graves while some others were injured.
