Panic in Ikorodu community as cultists kill one
CITIZENS COMPASS—Residents of Baiyeku in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State were thrown into panic on Friday, August 16, 2024, as some suspected cultists struck in the area.
One person was killed in the process when the incident occurred at about 8 p.m.
It was learned that the quick intervention of local security and the Nigerian Navy saved the situation from escalating.
The male victim was said to be one of those collecting fees from commercial tricyclists in the area.
It was gathered that the assailants shot him and attempted to chop off one of his wrists during the attack.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital unfortunately he was confirmed dead.
The suspects were said to have found their way into the community by water and escaped the same way after perpetrating their evil.
Commercial and vehicular activities were grounded as residents scampered for safety.
Areas like Alamala, LFI, Grace Land, Maternity, Unity down to Macaulay were deserted.
The situation has since been under control.
An eye witness simply identified as Adekunle told our Correspondent that he was saved to his house by men of the Nigeria Navy.
He said the shooting was so rapid that he almost lost consciousness but for the quick response of the officers who saved and assisted him to his house.
“I was in Baiyeku at that time when there were gunshots everywhere.
“Thanks to the Nigerian Navy who rescued many of us out of the situation.”
At press time, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached.
