Overnight fire wrecks havoc in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS —Hours after gas explosion ruined over 50 shops at Agbado Road, Toyin bus-stop, Iju-Ishaga, an overnight fire outbreak has consumed numerous shanties at Freeman Street, Ebute-Meta.
The fire was said to be first noticed at about 2a.m., on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the fire also affected some buildings in the area.
An eye witness, Michael Adegbola who put a call across Citizens Compass at about 2.30a.m, said he lost two shanties to the inferno.
He said,
Fire! fire!! fire!!! it is raging at Freeman Street spreading fast. I have lost two shops. Oh! My God!!
He said officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were on ground.
At about 09:28hrs on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also attended to a fire outbreak at 36, Awolowo Way, by Under bridge, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, where a commercial one storey building gutted fire from the ground floor.
Until the inferno, the building was used as a store in the buzzing city capital.
The Director of the Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed the incident said there were ongoing efforts to access the seat of Fire and curtailed it from spreading to the upper floor and nearby structures within the smoke log environment.
