One trapped to death as building partially collapses in Lagos
CITIZENS COMPASS– AN adult male reported to be a welder has reportedly lost his life following the partial collapse of a storey building in Ikeja area of Lagos State
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, at 12 Aromire avenue, opposite Dominos Pizza, Ikeja.
It was learnt that the storey building formerly occupied by KUMS MART, was being worked on by unskilled labourers when part of it suddenly caved in killing the man on the spot.
The scene did not record further casualties before it was cordoned off by emergency responders who responded to distress calls.
The incident was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu in his situation report.
“Situation report regarding a partially collapsed building at 12 Aromire avenue, opposite Dominos Pizza, Ikeja
“The Agency responded to distress calls and upon arrival, discovered that a storey building formerly occupied by KUMS MART, was being worked on by unskilled labourers resulting in a partial collapse.
“An adult male reported to be a welder lost his life instantly at the scene. His remains were recovered and removed from the scene.
“Post disaster assessment conducted by the Agency’s LRT indicate that the building is stable and does not pose a threat to other buildings around.
“The building has been cordoned off and LASBCA and Nigeria Police have been contacted for further action.”
