One die, others injured on Lagos/Badagry Expressway
CITIZENS COMPASS– One person was dead while many others were injured on Sunday, in a multiple accident that occurred on Lagos/Badagry Expressway.
Vehicles involved were a fully laden DAF truck with number plate, FFF 754 XB, a white Toyota Hummer bus branded after Cross Country Transport with number plate, MUS 210 YJ, a bus with number plate, LSR 166 YE and a Nissan car.
The White Toyota Hummer bus was said to be loaded to capacity with passengers when the accident occurred at about 0933hrs around AT Ile-Epo Bus Stop, Oko Afo area of the Expressway.
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the multiple accidents in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, in response to distress calls via the 767 / 112 Toll-Free Lines at 0933hrs, activated its Emergency Response Team from Igando Base.
“Upon arrival of the Dolphin Response Team at the incident scene, it was discovered that a fully laden DAF truck, registration number FFF 754 XB, a white Toyota, Hummer bus, owned by Cross Country Transport, registration number, MUS 210 YJ, laden to capacity with passengers, a Volkswagon commercial bus, registration number LSR 166 YE and a Nissan car, registration number unknown, were involved in a multiple car crash at the aforementioned location.
“Further investigations by the LRT at the incident scene revealed that the incident occurred as a result of reckless driving on the side of the truck driver who lost control on high speed, which resulted in a crash into the three affected vehicles.
“Unfortunately, an adult male lost his life to the incident.
“Some of the numerous Injured were ferried to nearby hospitals by officials of the FRSC.
– Safety Measures were activated by Agency’s LRT to safeguard responders during the operation.
– Traffic Control Measures were activated at the incident scene to ensure vehicular movement along the carriageway.
– Agency’s heavy duty equipment was activated for a swift recovery of the affected vehicles.
– All three affected vehicles have been towed to Morogbo Police Station.
– The truck has been towed off the incident scene to a lay-by, to allow for free flow of traffic along the axis.
– The commodity has been taken to the morgue by FRSC before the arrival of the Agency’s LRT.
