NIWA lays water buoys in Niger, Kwara
CITIZENS COMPASS–To enhance navigational safety for all water users, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has laid water buoys from Gbajibo in Niger state to Gbajibo-Mundi in Kwara state.
The number of buoys used were 10 red and six green colours. The river is generally deep with the least depth of 21.3m. The Authority is taking this proactive step towards safeguarding our waterways.
These buoys serve as critical markers, indicating safe navigation channels, warning of hazards and designating protected areas.
It may be recalled that during the 2025 Management retreat, the Managing Director/CEO Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB emphasised on safety regulations and improved operational efficiency across the nation’s inland waterways.
