Nationwide blackout as national grid collapses again 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —Barely two days after the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, apologised to Nigerians over epileptic power supply in the country, the national grid has collapsed again resulting in nationwide blackouts.

This was disclosed by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), on Sunday, February 4, 2024, on its X account. 

According to a flier posted by ARDC, the power outage being experienced in its franchise areas is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours on Sunday.

“The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers that the power outage being experienced is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours today, 4th February, 2024, which has led to a nationwide power outage.

Be rest assured that we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized,” the statement said.

The development comes after electricity supply dropped in parts of the country

over constraints in gas supply to electricity generation companies.

Recall that in 2023, Nigerians experienced a minimum of three major blackouts in September 14, 19 and December 11. 

In the late hours of Sunday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the national grid has been fully restored after a partial disturbance at about 11:21 a. m. on Sunday.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’S General Manager Public Affairs in a statement said that the company initiated immediate restoration of the affected part of the grid.

”The Transmission Company of Nigeria,  hereby states that the grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 11:21hrs with Ibom power islanded feeding Eket, Ekim, Itu and Uyo transmission substations, during the period of partial disturbance, ” she said.
