National Development: LAPO set to examine role of Non-State Actors
CITIZENS COMPASS —The Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) is set to examine the role of Non-State Actors in National Development at its 30th Annual LAPO Development Forum, scheduled to hold in Abuja on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
Confirmed to speak at the event is Dr. Sarah Alade, former Ag. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Senior Special Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Finance and Economy while Dr. Felix Oriakhi of the Department of Political Science, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State shall deliver the keynote lecture.
LAPO Executive Director, Dr Honestus Ayo Obadiora assured that the forum shall provide a veritable platform for policy makers and critical stakeholders in development to deliberate and proffer practicable solutions to the challenges militating against the socio-economic development and transformation of Nigeria.”
Initiated in 1994, the Annual LAPO Development Forum has stimulated discourse on the development agenda in Nigeria and Africa and played host to distinguished personalities and top government functionaries including former Head of State and Presidents, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and current Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.
The main objectives of the 2023 Annual LAPO Development Forum are to examine the state of Nigeria’s development, appraise key government and donor-led national development initiatives, advocate for the effective implementation of development policies and programmes in partnership with Non-State actors and examine the 35 year of LAPO’s contributions to Nigeria national development (1987- 2022).
Since 1987, Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) has demonstrated uncommon commitment to poverty alleviation through the implementation of innovative Social, Health and Economic Empowerment Programmes (SHEEP) across the country. The 2021 and 2022 editions of the LAPO Forum were organized in partnership with the Federal Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Rural Development, respectively.
