My 45 years journey with Oyedepo—Bishop Abioye
CITIZENS COMPASS – The retired Vice President of the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Abioye, has said that he spent 45 years learning under the tutelage of his master, Bishop David Oyedepo.
He said the 45 years was a period to learn and relearn.
Abioye who spoke at a recent event said he still upholds the tenents of Winners Chapel.
Although Abioye has retired in accordance with the church’s updated operational manual, known as The Mandate, he remains dedicated to the church’s mission and vision. The Mandate has recently established a new retirement age for church leaders, reducing it from 60 to 55 years. Abioye, along with Bishop Thomas Arema, who has also served for over 30 years, has stepped down in compliance with this new rule.
During his remarks, Abioye clarified that retirement does not mean an end to his service but rather a transition to a new phase. He expressed his unwavering support for Bishop Oyedepo and the church’s goals, stating that his passion for the ministry continues to be strong.
In his farewell speech at Goshen Camp in Nasarawa State, Abioye said, “I appreciate my spiritual father, whom God has used tremendously to impact my life, my wife, and me until this moment. As a pastor, we have been well-fed by the word of God. He has inspired us and guided us on our path of destiny.”
He also mentioned, “Meeting with God’s servant (Oyedepo) was like entering a school where life-transforming lessons have been learned. There is no self-made man in life; God makes people through the influence of others. My story is a reflection of my stewardship under my mentor, Bishop David Oyedepo.”
He concluded by highlighting the depth of his relationship with Oyedepo, which spans nearly 45 years and covers various aspects of life, including ministry and family. Abioye stated, “This relationship is extensive and deep, and we will continue to engage in post-retirement activities under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as taught by our fathers and mentors over the years.”
