Meranda resigns as Lagos Speaker
CITIZENS COMPASS– The substantive Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, on Monday, resigned her position.
The resignation ushered in the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, as the current Speaker.
With the new arrangement, Meranda has returned to her former position as the deputy speaker of the Assembly.
Citizens Compass reported that a crisis erupted at the Assembly since Monday, January 13, 2025, following the impeachment of Obasa who was on a vacation in the United States of America.
Both Meranda and Obasa had stormed the Assembly complex on Monday morning, as fears heightened at the Assembly complex.
However, the Lagos State Police Command was quick to douse the likely tension by deploying its men to the venue.
Meranda’s tendered her resignation at the plenary session presided by her on Monday afternoon.
That was after a strategic meeting involving Obasa, Meranda, Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Mohammed Alade Pedro (SAN), Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi, and 38 lawmakers at the assembly garden.
