CITIZENS COMPASS–The Mbaise Secondary School Old Boys Association (MSSOBA), yesterday, called on alma mata for improved infrastructure on the school
The association made the call in Lagos, during its investiture and awards ceremony.
The Citizens Compass reports that Mbaise Secondary School, Aboh Mbaise, (aka MSS), is located in a town called ‘Aboh’, a border town between Aboh Mbaise Local Government and Ezinihitte Local Government Areas of Imo.
It also reports that the school was established in the mid 20th century during the post-colonial period.
The National President of MSSOBA, Mr Emmanuel Ekechukwu, said that every infrastructure needed updating with time, and that the old boys were trying their best to help improve some facilities in the institution..
Ekechukwu said that in the past few years, the old boys had done a lot in terms of infrastructural improvement in the school and still had the intention to do more.
He said that the Lagos Branch was one of the vibrant chapters of MSSOBA.
He, however, said that the event was not only to celebrate among friends but to see how the association could give back to the school, to see how the facilities there could be improved.
Commenting, Dr Patrick Korie, Chairman, MSSOBA Lagos Branch, said that MSS was a foremost secondary school in the old Eastern region of Nigeria.
Korie said that it was one of the first concrete joint ventures of the old Mbaise division, and served as a harbinger of qualitative education in the area and beyond.
“Today, the school is blessed with accomplished and distinguished old students.
“We are here today to honour some of our accomplished, distinguished old students and our friends.
“We wish to also use the opportunity to celebrate ourselves as worthy old students of the great MSS that never fails, rekindle the ‘never die’ spirit, hardworking, integrity and honesty that were the building blocks of our formation,” Korie said.
An awardee, Dr Ken Opara, said that he felt humbled and excited to be honoured because MSSOBA was quite important and a school that had produced important personalities.
Opara said that MSSOBA was very important because they emphasised development and the need to ensure that the school where they graduated continued to remain very strong.
He said that discipline, back then in the school, was a hallmark, of which had been used to model people to become what they are today.
