CITIZENS COMPASS– Tragedy struck yesterday, when a mast collapsed on a man in Edo State.
The incident occurred after a downpour at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Leading to the man’s death.
It was said to be caused by a rainstorm which disrupted a praise night organized to commemorate Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office.
According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the 38-year-old deceased was a driver for a decorator assigned to prepare the venue.
He was said to have been trying to secure his boss’s decorating materials when the mast came crashing down on him.
A witness who spoke anonymously described the horrific scene:
“We were all gathered at the stadium waiting for the commencement of the praise night when the wind started. Unfortunately, the mast collapsed and killed the man instantly. His head was shattered—it was a gory sight. I heard he was a driver for the decorator handling the venue setup. After the rain subsided, many people left the stadium.”
The victim’s body has since been removed and deposited in a morgue. However, the Edo State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
