Man stabs cleric to death
CITIZENS COMPASS–The husband of an interpreter at Rapture Empowerment International, Osogbo, Osun State, has reportedly stabbed the church founder, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, to death.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the suspect reportedly met the deceased in the interpreter’s room.
An argument was said to have ensued leading to the suspect to stab the deceased on the chest.
He gave up the ghost before help could come.
Before the tragic incident, the deceased was said to be attempting to mediate a conflict between an estranged couple.
The Bishop, well-known for his efforts to reconcile feuding individuals, was visiting the wife, who had reportedly been unwell.
The couple, who were not officially separated, had a history of frequent disputes and lived apart.
According to sources, the husband arrived at the wife’s residence in the early hours of the morning and found Bishop Olaribigbe there.
“A heated argument ensued, and in a fit of anger, the man took a knife and stabbed the pastor in the chest. Olaribigbe died on the spot,” a source close to the church, who requested anonymity, stated.
The couple had been detained by the Dugbe Police Division, while the bishop’s remains had been deposited at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital morgue.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson, Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said that the suspect may have acted out of suspicion, “We were told that the husband stabbed the pastor multiple times, killing him,” Opalola said.
