Man falls into Lagos lagoon
CITIZENS COMPASS – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Friday, rescued a man, Mr. Segun Amoo, who fell into the Lagos lagoon from Falomo bridge.
He was said to have fallen into the Lagoon on Thursday night.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in his updates on Friday, said the man has been reunited with his family.
“A man was reported to have fallen into the Lagos lagoon from Falomo bridge via the Lagos State Toll-Free Emergency numbers 767 and 112 at 0743hrs today.
“Following the distress calls, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans with a swift arrival of the LASEMA Response Team from Lekki zone at the incident scene at 0802hrs.
“On arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene, investigations revealed that an adult male, who after resuscitation, later identified himself as Segun Amoo, narrated how he mistakenly fell into the Lagos lagoon at the aforementioned location.
“Information gathered from officials of the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) at their Falomo office revealed that the adult male (Mr. Segun Amoo), around 11 pm yesterday night had been observed by one of their staff struggling for survival in the lagoon waters after he fell off the bridge, thereby leading to the LASWA Rescue Team’s response.
“The victim named Segun Amoo was rescued by the LASWA officials and subsequently stabilized by the Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Paramedics, before he provided vital information about himself after resuscitation, stating his home address at Ilaje-Bariga, Lagos, and in the process, clarified that he was not suicidal while narrating how the incident of his fall off the bridge occurred.
“Status: The LASEMA Response Team proceeded to the above-mentioned address for further investigations, where the Rescue Team successfully handed over the victim to his relatives.
“The victim’s brother, Mr. Atteji Benuwa, who claimed they had been searching for him for a while, thanked the emergency responders on behalf of his family for the rescue efforts and his successful re-integration back into the family.
$Operation concluded. The shark team is heading back to base.
