Lawmaker advocates home-grown farming for food security

CITIZENS COMPASS — Moshood Aro, a member of Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged his constituents to engage in home-grown farming to promote food security.
Aro, popularly called AMA, gave the advice during the ninth Annual Constituency Stakeholders Meeting on Friday in Ijede, Ikorodu.
The Citizen Compass recalls that the meeting was held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies of the state .
Citizen Compass reports that the theme of the stakeholders’ meeting is: “Ensuring Food Security for a Sustainable Future: Youths Participation and Home-Grown Farming..
Aro, representing Ikorodu Constituency 2,said the state government was committed to making Lagos a producing state ,and not a consuming state, in the agricultural value chain .
According to him, the executive arm ,enabled by the House, has introduced several initiatives to boost food production in the state.
Speaking on his achievements as a representative of the constituency ,the lawmaker said he had fulfilled more than 60 per cent of his campaign promises .
He said the achievements were made possible owing to his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
The lawmaker thanked party leaders Sen. Mukhail Abiru(Lagos East), Rep. Babajimi Benson, council chairmen, traditional leaders and chiefs in the constituency for their support.
“In just 13 months, we have managed to fulfil over 60 per cent of our campaign promises.
“We have achieved all these because of our shared passion and commitment to improving the lives of our people.
“I have supported students, skilled workers, SMEs and unemployed youths.
“I have injected about N50 million into market women’s businesses across the constituency,
“Today I am proud to announce the establishment of s fish hub in Ikorodu Constituency 2, which will not only create jobs but will significantly increase fish supply in Lagos state,” he said.
The traditional ruler of Igbogbo, Oba Abdulsemiu Kasali, in his remarks, commended the lawmaker for the achievements recorded.
He urged the lawmaker to use his office to facilitate early completion of the ongoing Igbogbo-Baiyeku road project.
Also speaking, Mr Oriyomi Adebogun, representing the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Imota, expressed displeasure over the exclusion of youths in empowerment programmes in tbe constituency.
Responding, the lawmaker said all the issues raised had been noted and would be attended to.
