Lawmaker advise youths to be ICT compliant

CITIZENS COMPASS –The Lawmaker representing Ikorodu at the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Babajimi Benson, yesterda, advised youths to study, network and be information Communication Technology compliant(ICT).

Benson, Chairman House Committee on Defence, gave the advice during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Legislative building in Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He said that it is imperative for our youths to be ICT compliant as the world is moving towards technology.” Once you have information technology, the sky will not be your limit”

“I am happy, also biased because I am a legislator, anything that will advance the cause of legislation, I will be extremely happy to be with.

“Adesina has taken a step in the right direction, he was trying to construct a conducive edifice believed to be a glass house that will accommodate the seven legislatures.

“If you have a conducive environment to think and to draft laws, your job quality will be good, that is why I am here, I am extremely happy,” he said.

The lawmaker urged other chairmen to engaged on more infrastructural development in Ikorodu to boost economic and commercial activities of the division.

Earlier, the Council Chairman, Mr Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, said his administration has taking it upon itself to commence the construction of a chamber that would assist the legislature in performing their legislative assignment effectively and efficiently towards achieving a greater Ikorodu.

According to the Chairman, the legislative chamber would be built in such a way that all the essential materials needed and gallery for an efficient legislation would be included, adding that it would be completed in six month period.

“This ceremony marks another major milestone in the history of Ikorodu local government.

“It signifies the commencement of the construction of legislative chamber in the council.

“The Legislative Arm is an important arm of  government all over the world and as such should be treated with dignity. That is why we plan for this beautiful edifice for our councillors.

“As we all know, Ikorodu legislators are long overdue for a befitting chamber to carry out their legislative assignments,” he said.

The council chairman appreciated the lawmaker for finding time out of his tight schedule to honour the invitation adding that he inherited good behaviour and passion for development from his late parent, Chief T.O.S Benson.

The chairman also appreciate Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly for his cooperation and effort in ensuring the project see the light of the day.

However, the chairman promised to flagg-off the construction of Solomade road, initiating computer training unit in all the primary schools to train teachers and students and completion of ICT centre to train youths at Ita-Elewa before the end of his administration.

“It will be recall that in the early 60s, late Chief T.O.S facilitated many development project in Ikorodu, among which was Nigerian Telecommunications.

“I appreciate all the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC)members in Ikorodu Division for their support in ensuring that the local government becomes a better place for all,” he said.

Also speaking , the Leader of Ikorodu local government legislators, Adebowale Ajayi, said a serene environment would bring about an efficient service delivery and good reasoning.

Ajayi said ” the chamber is believed to have different department and library to facilitate our job, because we go to LSHA to do research on some of our bye-laws,”.

Also speaking, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Ex Deputy Governor of Lagos state and GAC member, commended the chairman adding the chamber would give enable the legislature to make laws, investigate, pass laws and do other things necessary  to the council once completed.

Mr Babatunde Rotinwa, former Lagos State Head of Service said the chairman acted on accordance with the constitution owing on to the principle of separation of powers adding that he had performed excellently by initiating the legislative chamber.

Also speaking, an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Yahaya Oshoala, Asamadani and Chief Imam of Oriwu central mosque, commended and thank God for having people like Mukhail Abiru, Benson and Adesina at position of leadership in Ikorodu because they have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Ikorodu.

Oshoala urges those who may occupy their position in another dispensation to emulate them and strive to surpass their record adding that they have taking Ikorodu to a greater height in terms of infrastructural development.

Also, Alhaji Shamsondeen Longe, urges the chairman to continue on the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people as well as embark on legacy projects that would put him in the part of history in the council.

The Citizen Compass reports that political leaders, staff, clerics and community leaders were all present at the event.
