LAWMA mourns official who died in bus, truck collision 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS– The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Wednesday, mourned one of its officials who died when a mini-bus popularly known as Korope collided with one of its operational trucks in Ketu area of the State.

Spokesperson for the Agency, Folasade Quadri, disclosed this in a statement while clarifying the circumstances leading to the death.

“The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA)deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of one of our sanitation workers, Mr. Bashiru Nuhu, who lost his life in a road accident involving a mini-bus and one of our operational trucks in the Ketu area.

“Contrary to some reports circulating in the media, we wish to clarify that the LAWMA truck was carrying out its routine waste evacuation assignment when the unfortunate incident occurred. At the time of the accident, the truck was properly parked by the roadside with its amber warning lights on, in accordance with standard safety procedures. The collision resulted from a mini-bus travelling at high speed, which lost control and crashed into the stationary truck.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mr. Nuhu during this profoundly difficult time. His service and commitment to keeping our city clean will never be forgotten.

“LAWMA has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure that all facts are established and justice is served.”

Citizens Compass reported that the official died on Monday night when the collision occurred in the late hours of Monday.
