Lagos Taskforce impounds 64 bikes in Ikorodu, other areas
CITIZENS COMPASS–The LagosLagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce), on Wednesday, impounded 64 motorcycles popularly known as Okada in the Ikorodu and Berger areas of Lagos State.
The operation led by the Agency’s Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, was carried out at Aunty Kenny Bus Stop, inward Ogolonto, in Ikorodu and Berger Bus Stop. The operation by the Taskforce, which targeted restricted areas by the Lagos State Government, resulted in the confiscation of 64 motorcycles which had been operating on the restricted routes thereby flouting the ban on their activities on all Highways in the Metropolis.
This enforcement exercise was part of the ongoing efforts by the Agency to maintain order and ensure compliance with the State Government’s ban on okada operations in designated areas. Speaking after the operation, CSP Akerele reiterated the Government’s stance, warning okada operators to desist from flouting the law. He urged them to seek alternative means of livelihoods, as continuing to operate illegally could lead to severe penalties, including jail terms for both the rider and passengers.
The Lagos State Taskforce remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of Lagos residents by enforcing environmental and traffic laws that support public safety.
The Taskforce Chairman assured residents that the Agency under his watch would ensure that the activities of okada operators in all restricted areas become a thing of the past. He urged commuters to embrace safer and secure means of transportation which are in line with the THEMES PLUS Agenda of the State Government.
