Int’l Youth Day: Tokunbo Abiru celebrates Nigerian youths

 

CITIZENS COMPASS – THE senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has identified with the Nigerian youths as they celebrate International Youth Day. 

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, in a statement, on Saturday, August 12, 2023, advised them to relate with their environment. 

The statement reads, “I congratulate Youths in the Lagos East Senatorial District and Nigeria at large on this year’s commemoration of the  International Youth Day, with the theme: *Green Skills for Youth: Towards a sustainable world*.

” The world today stands at the intersection of progress and preservation. In other words, as mankind aspires to explore the earth and the environment in furtherance of technology and other socio-economic advancement, environmental concerns, resource depletion, and climate change are serious conversations that are shaping the way we all relate with our environment.

“Nigerian youth, like other young folks around the world, need to be  equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to navigate the complex challenges of our time and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

” Dear young people, I enjoin you to embrace ‘Green Skills’ which encompass a diverse array of competencies that are essential for a sustainable world. The skills range from  understanding renewable energy technologies to practising sustainable agriculture, promotion of eco-friendly urban planning and ecological conservation.

“As your representative, It is gratifying to inform that  through the SAIL Innovation Lab, the first of its kind Innovation hub founded by myself and my adorable wife, many young minds in the Senior Secondary Schools are being  exposed to training that is related to the green economy that aims at fostering a sustainable future.

“Last month, precisely Saturday, 15th July, 2023, at the graduation ceremony of STEM for Secondary School Students Participants (Cohort 2) at SAIL Innovation Lab, these kids showcased amazing projects to the admiration of those in attendance. 

” The projects include; Farm Security, Smart Irrigation System and vertical farming, Automated home Control System,  Wind generated electricity and Aquaponics, that helps farmers recycle water used in their farming endevours. 

” Dear youth, I want you to know that you are not only inheritors of the planet; you are its custodians, entrusted with the responsibility of steering it towards sustainability.

” As leaders, It is therefore our duty to ensure that you are  equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.” “
